After making my taggie owls and taggie blankets, a Mummy friend of mine requested that I made a taggie bird! How fun!
My daughter Ava absolutely loves Taggie toys, as soon as she gets a hold of one, the tags will be in her mouth! She also love to rub the satiny fabric on her cheek. Adorable.
Here it is-really easy to make and can be whipped up in an evening, too!
I asked what colours she would like. Reds, greens and blues seemed to be the colours she preferred for her bubby, definitely not pink, girlie colours-or florals...a welcome change for me!
Thread
a main colour fabric
A contrasting coloured piece of felt
Cotton
Sewing machine, needle etc
Cut out a bird shape in the size you desire, ensuring that you allow space for the seam allowance.
This one fits well on an A4 sheet of paper. I found it here. This birdie is about 25cm long and 15cm tall
Double up your fabric, right sides facing, and pin the bird pattern on top then cut them all out.
Cut a piece of felt into a wing shape. I cut a smaller one first and it was a but small for my liking, so here's the new one. I love that it's in a heart shape.
Using chalk or a fabric pencil, draw where you would like birdie's eye to be. I managed to draw the first one how I liked it, but then it was really hard to match it to the other side. Make sure you make them as similar as possible!!
If you are super clever at embroidery, you'd probably be great at doing a fancy schmancy stitch for the eye, I used a backstitch as it's all I know how to do. I'm pretty happy with it!
Aaaaaaaaaw...love birds!
Pin on your wing, and, once again, make sure that both wings are even on each piece.
Sew around the edge of the wing on each piece. I used a zigzag stitch.
Ok, so I didn't take a photo of the next process (oops, sorry!), so here's a pic of the way I did it for my taggie blanket!
Basically, just make sure that the loops are facing in.
Put both of your pieces, right sides facing, and sew all the way around the edge, leaving a space for turning out. Make sure that you are catching both sides if the ribbon as you go past the tags.
Snip the corners, trim off excess seam allowance.
Turn your birdie out then fill it with polyfill, ensuring you get the stuffing into birdie's beak too. Knitting needles or chopsticks are handy for this, I used the rounded edge of my unpicker!
When you've stuffed birdie, sew the gap together using a blind stitch.
Here he is, just chillin' in the tree!
Let me know what you think, or if you have any questions for me!
Depending what day it is, you may see birdie at any of these wonderful parties!
He's so cute. I love his heart wing... :)
